Announcements of layoffs "greet" us on a weekly basis.  Michigan's unemployment rate continues in the Top 5, even surpassing that of Louisiana.  United Van Lines reports that their outbound trips from Michigan are at a rate not seen since the early 1980's.  Such facts are of great concern to the State and to the Detroit Region.  The analysis of 2005 State population estimates, released by the Census Bureau, details the components of our changing population in an effort to help us understand how to begin making the changes necessary for us to reverse the tide.
